U.S. Weighs Airstrikes to Protect 40,000 People on the Run From Iraq Militants

President Barack Obama is reportedly considering airstrikes and airdrops to support approximately 40,000 members of a minority ethnic group stranded atop a mountaintop in northern Iraq.


There have been reports that those airstrikes have already commenced, but Pentagon Press Secretary Admiral John Kirby denied those reports, tweeting Thursday afternoon, "Press reports that US has conducted airstrikes in Iraq completely false. No such action taken."


The group, the Yazidis, are stranded there after facing a choice: flee the approaching militants of the Islamic State (called IS, and formerly known as ISIS) or stay, and risk being butchered in the streets. Read more...
