The UK has raised its terrorist threat level from "substantial" to "severe," reflecting growing fears that British citizens who have traveled to the Middle East to fight with rebel groups could be plotting attacks back home.
The UK's Home Secretary Theresa May announced the change on Friday, saying that a terrorist attack against Western targets was "highly likely," though no specific intelligence suggested that an attack was "imminent."
The new threat level was based on the "very latest intelligence," May said.
