Problem mit Star Wars Empire at War Gold bei Steam

mein oben genanntes Spiel stürzt leider in regelmäßigen Abständen ab mit der Meldung "An exception occurred".
Besonders nervig ist es, wenn ich einen Mod spielen will. Ich habe schon von einem Fehler gelesen, welches das Spiel bei den neueren Betriebssystemen haben soll.
Aktuell habe ich Windows 8. Ich habe schon versucht, dieses RAM Patch zu installieren, leider ohne Erfolg. Vermutlich ist das nicht für die Steam Version geschrieben
